Across every county in Estonia, local development centers (MAK) provide support to civic associations and initiatives, offering consulting services to both new and established businesses, as well as local governments.

KÜSK coordinates the field of civil society and NGO consultants in local development centers.

What NGO Consultants Do

NGO consultants advise civic associations and initiatives throughout their organizational lifecycle, including:

  • Inspiring leaders
  • Establishing organizations
  • Increasing organizational capacity
  • Advising on the management of associations
  • Advising on financing association activities
  • Advising on association projects
  • Developing organizations, including advising developing and terminating associations

Each development center’s NGO consultant helps contribute to the activities of NGOs in their county by sharing information about what is happening in civil society and creates the preconditions for the emergence and development of civic initiatives.

The counseling service is guaranteed in both Estonian and Russian and is free of charge.

Consultants can assist in:

  • Empowering regional communities.
  • Growing operational capacity.
  • Developing organizations.
  • Interacting with local governments (possibly using co-creation methodology).
  • Formulating project ideas for various application rounds.
  • Advising on the suitability of an idea for the round.
  • The formulation of the objective.
  • The relevance of the application.
  • The reasonableness of the budget.
  • The correctness of the report.
  • Correcting the articles of association if necessary.
  • Preparing an action plan/development plan or various documents.
  • Registry operations.
  • Questions related to the work of the Management Board and the General Assembly.
